The world we inhabit is strange, varied, wondrous, and constantly evolving; we are too.
We are shaped by our experiences, families, communities, ancestry, hopes, visions, loves, and losses—and we are more than the sum of our parts. We can gain insight not just through cognition, but through working to deepen our connection with others and our own multifaceted selves. Intelligence emerges from our conversations with the world around us, the seen and unseen, the remembered and the forgotten, that which we recognize as ourselves and that which appears as other. I approach therapy as a collaborative process which involves the whole being of both therapist and client.
Healing is a process as dynamic and varied as we are. It includes expanding our capacity to experience and be present to a wider range of emotions, and becoming better able to acknowledge the fullness of our history without being defined by it. There are countless ways to imagine and shape a richer life.
I draw on a variety of perspectives and techniques to facilitate transformation: queer and feminist theories; somatic, relational, and neurobiological understandings of mental and emotional health; Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR); Somatic Experiencing (SE). Whatever strategies and approaches we decide to use in our work together, it is the relationship we build in our sessions that is the most essential catalyst for healing.
I'm committed to collaborating to build a supportive therapeutic space, honoring the strategies people have developed to navigate their struggles, while helping them find new approaches that better serve them here and now.
I honor and celebrate the diversity of experience people have of gender and sexuality, as well as the many ways people have of thinking, processing, communicating, and finding kinship.
Trauma, shame, confusion, stress, and fear can disrupt our access to the fullness of our own experience, and can leave us without the energy that we need to discover our lives' full potential. We can collaborate to shift and transform what stands in the way of healing.
